USWCT II – Bees Awards – Facebook friends and Gowalla
Yes, getting all smart and fancy with the short coding my title for ”US West Coast Trip part II” – well the point is that it will be easier for you to skip the post on the added words if you are not interested.
Meeting with the Bees Awards
Yesterday I had the pleasure of meeting with some of the people from the upcoming Bees Awards, which is the first international social media marketing award show for professionals, it is going to be held here in San Francisco on the 9th of November.
I will do a more extensive blog post on our blog at Mindjumpers next week, with some of the interesting things I talked to them about, the following is more on a personal note.
I meet up with Bastien (founder) and Cara (Creative Executive) arriving all sweaty, because I were running late and of course took the wrong road, leading to a minor detour (and frankly – San Francisco is not that cold right now). Yesterday were a Saturday, so Bastian had invited me to meet them at his home, and again arriving all sweaty could be an awkward way to start, but Bastian where so cool – he just gave me a towel and went upstairs to grab me a clean t-shirt from his closet.
Both, Bastian and Cara is really dedicated to this project, I really liked them, we talked for 3,5 hours and we could probably still be sitting in the kitchen talking if we didn’t have other plans.
Bastien have lived in San Francisco for a lot of years, but is originally from the French speaking part of Canada and Cara moved to San Francisco a year ago from Detroit, it were really interesting to get to know their story and for instance hear about a new an inspiring underground art movement being established in a city like Detroit right now, cool to know that Detroit is more than Cars, 8 mile rd, M&M & home of the Lions.
As I mentioned in the beginning, I will do a post about some of the things we talked about on our Mindjumpers blog, but if you are interested in social media from a professional marketing or communication point of view, please check out http://beesawards.com – and if you know of inspiring European social media marketing/communication blogs – in any language please let me know of the – jonas@mindjumpers.com.
On an ending note about meeting Bastien and Care – thank you social media, no chance in hell I would have gotten these two new friends without meeting them through Twitter.
Facebook friend
While I were hanging out with Bastien and Cara, Christine went to Berkley (sounds like she just took a couple of classes) – she meet up with an old friend from school – Christina that is studying her PHD at Berkley – a cure for cancer research project.
Christine had not talked to Christina in probably 5 years, but being in each others facebook network, it were a given to meet up and so Facebook provided Christine with the special vacation experience of seeing the inside of the famous Berkley University + babbling and catching up with an old friend.
Go Walla on the west coast
A friend, Lara Mulady, brought the idea to my attention. Lara also works a lot with social media marketing and communication, and very often have some good points.
As mentioned last time I use Foursquare as my favorite location based network tool, but as Lara tweeted me, it could be cool to see which one of Foursquare and Gowalla works the best, traveling around the US west coast – so know I installed Gowalla and my first impression is really good. I will use them both for the next weeks and do a post on Mindjumpers blog on which one worked the best for us and which one is being used or is valuable from a company or business point of view.
